The Aeolus Pipeline Initiative is an internal development initiative focused on advancing several of the most promising catalytic antioxidant compounds from Aeolus’ proprietary library of 200 compounds. The initial therapeutic focus areas for the Aeolus Pipeline Initiative are:

  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Autoimmune disorders (arthritis and ulcerative colitis)
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Biodefense / radioprotection
  • Tumor suppression / bone marrow transplantation
  • Stroke

These therapeutic focus areas were selected based upon preliminary data developed using Aeolus catalytic antioxidant compounds, as well as both the clinical path and the market sizes of therapeutics for these diseases. In the near term, the Company expects to evaluate 24-30 compounds and test up to 12 of these in animal models by the end of the fourth quarter of this year, and the first quarter of next year. The goal is to then select 1-2 of the most promising of these compounds and prepare these for initiation of clinical evaluation in 2006, and then another 2-3 compounds for initiation of clinical evaluation in 2007. In this manner, the Company will be in the unique position to have multiple early stage clinical trials proceeding while at the same time advancing compounds through efficacy evaluation, either on its own or in conjunction with strategic partner(s).

Initial funding for the Aeolus Pipeline Initiative was recently secured by the Company via a $2.5 million investment by existing institutional shareholders of the Company. Approximately 95% of this funding is ear-marked specifically for advancement of programs under the Aeolus Pipeline Initiative.
